Shannon Cruz started her classical ballet training under Marcia Dale Weary at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet when she was six and first appeared in The Nutcracker in 1987 as an angel. She has attended Boston Ballet's Children's Summer Workshop, Boston Ballet's Summer Dance Program, and the Rock School of the Pennsylvania Ballet. Shannon was in the original casts of Alan Hineline's Sans Souci and Bach Cello at the Regional Dance America/Northeast Festival and has also performed in such Balanchine ballets as Raymonda Variations, Walpurgishnacht, Serenade, and La Source, and as Marzipan, Spanish, and Arabian in George Balanchine's The Nutcracker. As a professional dancer with the Corpus Christi Ballet, she has appeared in many principal and soloist roles such as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Snow Queen, and Arabian in The Nutcracker, Lilac Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty, Myrta in Giselle, Odile in Swan Lake, the title roles in Paquita and Cinderella, and she originated the role of Lucy in the Corpus Christi Ballet’s production of Dracula. This is Shannon’s fourteenth season with the Corpus Christi Ballet. She is also an instructor for the Munro Ballet Studios in Corpus Christi and a student of English at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Shannon is happily married to Joey Cruz, and they live with their two dogs, Penelope and Ulysses.
